About East West Wellness & Rehab

East West Wellness & Rehab was founded by our licensed physical therapist, Dr. Katherin Duong, as a way to bridge the gap in our current healthcare system and provide quality care to patients. Growing up with traditional Chinese medicine and experiencing the benefits of Eastern medicine firsthand, she wanted to combine the practice with her knowledge and clinical expertise as a physical therapist to give patients greater options in their healing journey. She provides a contemporary healing experience, focusing on not only the physical aspects of health, but also the connections it has with mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

East West Wellness & Rehab offers physical therapy, cupping therapy, dry needling, and personal training services. Every session is one-on-one with our licensed physical therapist, allowing us to understand your specific goals and tailor your wellness + rehab program to fit your lifestyle. Along with the personalized visits, our comprehensive care utilizing holistic modalities and patient-collaborative care helps you achieve amazing results in a shorter period of time.

Our team has worked with people of all ages and varying injuries, getting them long-lasting results. We specialize in cupping therapy, dry needling, and treating back pain, but have extensive experience with return-to-sport athletes, knee pain, ankle sprains, shoulder injuries, headaches, chronic pain conditions, and much more.

Our goal is always to help you move better, feel better, and function better. We are passionate about patient education and empowering individuals to take an active role in their healing process to achieve optimal wellbeing.

Our office is located on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, VA and is easily accessible to the people of Alexandria, Springfield, Lorton, Kingstowne, Franconia, Burke, Annandale, and Merrifield.

For greater convenience, we also offer in-home, mobile services to those residing in Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County.

8 Benefits of Cupping Therapy
with East West Wellness & Rehab

Decrease muscle tightness

Cupping therapy decreases muscle tightness by enhancing circulation and relaxing the targeted muscles. It uses suction to decompress the tissue and break up adhesions to release muscle tension.

Stimulates blood flow + promotes healing

Through the created suction, blood flow improves, leading to better oxygenation and nutrient delivery to tissues. This stimulates the healing process and is a natural and effective way to address injuries such as joint pain, muscle spasms, ankle sprains, and tendonitis

Relieves pain

Cupping is a non-invasive, healing modality that can decrease pain for conditions such as headaches, back pain, tennis elbow, and knee pain. A great alternative to medications and massages for a pain-free life.

Improved sleep

Cupping stimulates the peripheral nervous system for improved quality of sleep. It can help with a range of health issues including anxiety, stress, depression, and insomnia to provide better sleep.

Increased flexibility

By releasing muscle tension, cupping therapy is able to increase range of motion for greater flexibility. It enhances recovery and allows you to return to activities without limitations.

Removes toxins

Cupping therapy uses suction to promote dilation of capillaries. It helps to loosen and release toxins and waste products from past injuries and heavy workouts.

Increase energy (qi)

In traditional Chinese medicine, cupping helps stimulate and balance the body’s energy (qi) by clearing energy blockages in the meridian pathways. Improving energy flow in the body allows for decreased pain and feelings of heaviness.

Decreases myofascial pain

Myofascial tissue is a thin, strong, fibrous tissue that surrounds muscles and bones that can result in pain and soreness if too tight. Suction from cupping helps decrease myofascial tightness, and is especially helpful on scars.

Common Conditions We Can Treat
with Cupping Therapy

While cupping therapy can look scary and intimidating, it is one of the safest and effective modalities to help relieve pain, decrease muscle tightness, and improve flexibility. This popular Eastern manual therapy treatment is becoming more and more popular in Western medicine due to its immediate results, non-invasiveness, and minimal side effects.

One of the benefits of cupping therapy includes detoxification. The suction can cause toxins and waste products from past injuries to arise, resulting in light red to purple marks. The darker the color, the greater amount of muscle stagnation in the region. By releasing the toxins and opening up the capillaries, cupping therapy stimulates blood flow and new nutrients to help the muscles and joints heal for a quicker recovery. As for the marks, your body clears it out fairly quickly! You can expect the marks to be gone within a few days to a week.

Cupping therapy is especially great to help recover from a tough workout, decrease poor posture with a desk job, and to relax from a busy, stressful day. Cupping therapy is versatile and beneficial for people of all ages and conditions - we recommend trying it out for yourself!
